Who we help?
Past members who have enjoyed Steps equipment have been diagnosed with: angelmans syndrome, autism, blindness, cerebral palsy, cognitive delay, deafness, developmental delay, downs syndrome, dyspraxia, epilepsy, fine or gross motor skills, hyper-mobility, microcephaly and rhetts syndrome. The actual condition is not important to us - we just concentrate on how we can help each & every child.

About Steps Charity and Steps2Inclusion
Steps is a UK registered charity. Our aims are very 'simple’. We want to make every day a play day for children and young people who cannot play independently.

Basically, mainstream toys are adapted so that, with a special external switch, individuals can play with the toys by switching them on, by blowing, sucking, bashing, squeezing or pressing the switch…..whatever movement remains to the individual. Steps experienced staff try hard to match the individual with an external switch maximising their available movement.
Celebrating 20 years
Steps is delighted to have just celebrated 20 years of our adapted developmental toy and switch lending library service. Feedback from happy families and organizations, on the equipment we have provided over the years, has always been overwhelmingly positive.

We offer a choice of subsidized membership and our free Membership Support Fund - see more below.

We would be delighted to speak to you about how we can help you, your family or your organisation. Apply for one of our memberships today!
Members Support Fund
We believe that no child should be denied the joyful and educational benefits of play so we continue to fundraise to cover the full cost of the service (which is more than the membership fees) and to offer a Membership Support Fund.

We would love to support memberships for Hospices and for members in difficult financial situations forever but in reality we can only fund as long as we can. Please see our Membership Support page to apply for an annual funded membership.

Steps2Inclusion Project
Big Lottery Fund logo

Our Steps2 Inclusion project was started in October 2010. We were absolutely delighted when The Big Lottery, Reaching Communities Fund, decided they believed in our work enough to give us financial support to continue and expand the work we had been doing for over 5 years with the following 4 Torbay marginalised groups.
• Young Offenders
• Long-Term Unemployed
• Adults with Learning Difficulties
• People in Recovery from Mental Health Issues

We have a fantastic team of experienced support workers, a trainer, a project manager and an administration assistant who all work tirelessly with people teaching them work and life skills and offering them training to improve their employability and to be more confident in their lives overall.

All of our placements have disabilities or have faced adverse circumstances which have left them with many barriers which have stopped them moving forward, our passion is to help them to find ways of overcoming them to enable them to lead a much more fulfilling life and be included in their own communities.

If you can think of anyone in the Torbay area who would benefit from or need our support then why not encourage them to call
April Tims (Steps2 Inclusion Manager) on 01803 295138 to find out more about a Steps2 Inclusion Placement. Please see the Contact Us section for more details.
